ACTION ALERT
March/April 2011—The State of Maryland wants to move "Waste to Energy" –TRASH BURNING– from Tier 2 to Tier 1 renewable energy. Please contact your representatives in Annapolis and tell them to oppose SB 690 and HB 1121.
The sponsor of the bill, Sen. Middleton’s office wrote:
"SB 690 makes "waste-to-energy" a Tier 1 (currently a Tier 2) in the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). By enhancing the incentive for waste-to-energy, there will be less trash provided to landfills which produce methane emissions (a potent greenhouse gas), have no pollution control systems, and generate less electrical power per ton than waste-to-energy plants. Waste-to-energy plant produces electricity with less environmental impact than almost any other source."
Tell these representatives TODAY that you OPPOSE SB 690 and HB 1121! (email addresses included in link)
Even if you are in favor of incineration, you should be opposed to the contract and speak out against the conflicts of interest!
